More than a dozen Millcreek-area business converged with 25 non profits and hundreds of residents on a blustery, hot July 20 morning to participate in more than 20 services projects at Canyon Rim Park for the seventh annual Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service.

“What was accomplished today was truly a manifestation of the Millcreek Miracle,” said Nate Gibby, chairman of Canyon Rim is Community, the sponsoring organization of Canyon Rim Cares. “The amount of good that can be accomplished when businesses, residents and causes come together to help each other is nothing short of extraordinary.”

“We had 2 carloads of donations—truly amazing,” said Laurel Ingram, chief development officer of Fourth Street Clinic. “Our Street Team was over the moon with all of the items, and many things have already been deployed into our community.”

Some of the service projects accomplished included the following:

  • 4,000 pre-k kits created for Granite School District
  • 500 ESL kits for English Skills Learning Center assembled
  • 100 summer survival kits for 4th Street Clinic patrons
  • 1 70’ mural painted in memorial of Zuzu Felt, a two-year-old Millcreek girl who tragically passed away this spring
  • 300 children’s books donated to WIC
  • 200 clean up kits created for the Jordan River Commission
  • 100 new household kits provided to the Road Home and Peace House
  • 100 letters written to veterans facilitated by Millcreek Promise
  • 25 blankets were made to donate to trafficking survivors facilitated by OUR Rescue
  • 1 life time achievement award presented to Aimee McConkie for her efforts to guide Venture Out

For participating businesses, Canyon Rim Cares provided an opportunity to engage with local residents in ways that build rapport and develop relationships beyond typical business transactions.

“I support the community because I think it is a full-circle situation, where doing good comes around to benefit both your business and the community,” said Stephanie Steele, owner of Meet Me on 33rd, a long-time sponsor of Canyon Rim Cares.
